Duolingo's "Solve for a swerve" was made a a submission for DnAD awards

Challenge: Duo-lingo math wanted us to make math fun for the kids, and encourage them to download the app. With PR-worthy headlines and more downloads, Duo wanted to gamify math to the next level.


The Brand And Human Truths: Math is a subject that can easily make you tired. There is a high chance of kids getting demotivated and giving up as the process doesn't feel rewarding. The Solve for the Swirl campaign not only rewards the kids for their consistent efforts to learn math but also makes them want to learn and invest in it by gamifying the experience. This collaboration harps on the existing ‘creative play' of Mcdonald's that consists of word games and puzzles; in collaboration with Duolingo to make kids like fractions as much as they love fries.


How The Campaign Will Unfold:

1. Duolingo and McDonalds get the campaign started by sending out cryptic tweets to create some buzz.

2. To get the Mc Flurry, all you do is,

3. Complete a 7-day streak on Duolingo Math to unlock a special code.

4. Go to McDonald’s and order a Happy Meal.

5. Enter your code to reveal the final math puzzle.

6. Solve it to get a free McFlurry added to your order.

7. We put up posters on tube stations and bus shelters, and schools to encourage parents to download Duolingo Math and further create buzz by featuring the little geniuses on our social media with the hashtag #SolvedForTheSwirl.

8. With PR-worthy headlines in newspapers and social media marketing, we successfully add the fun back in math.


About The Specific Creative Choices (Copy): The copy is to the point and precise, making kids understand that duo aids in reducing their math anxiety by gamifying the experience for them.


About The Specific Creative Choices (Design): We incorporated the Duo aesthetic that includes the green colour of the owl along with elements of McDonalds making the ad according to the brand tonality.


The Category Swerve: Most educational ads talk about the benefits of the product and how smart it makes you. Through the Solve for the Swirl campaign, we talk about how you can have fun while you learn, in turn making you a genius at the subject without bringing the educational route to light. Through gamifying the experience we make the app more interactive and real, so kids can physically interact with it!
